ISTEP in Elbert Park
On Saturday, May 14th, the Interact Club went to Elbert Park to clean up and do a project for ISTEP. ISTEP stands for Iowa Students for Tobacco Education and Prevention, and it is a program in Iowa that gets students involved in raising awareness for the harmful affects of tobacco. The Interact Club searched the park and picked up every single cigarette butt that was found, marking each one of them with a yellow flag. When we were all done, we ended up using all 500 of our flags! As shown in the pictures, there were cigarette butts ALL over the park. The purpose of this project was to show the effects of smoking in public parks and leaving your cigarette butts on the ground. We encourage everyone to keep our parks clean by not leaving cigarette butts on the ground!
